Adam | Cobra
Jul0
Meet Adam. He’ll be a senior at West Stanly. And if you’re thinking he looks familiar… well, it may be because we worked with his sister last year. And they both have the same piercing eyes. Just ask Adam — it’s all I could talk about during his shoot. His eyes are stunning. Literally and figuratively.

Adam plays football at West and loves Sundrop. And for those reasons and many more, we’re a big fan. He did an awesome job on his shoot (clearly!) and we had a blast.

As you can see, Adam loves his car and loves going to the track with it to race. And if you’re lucky enough, you just might catch a glimpse of it driving around the streets of Locust.

Adam is a perfect example of what it means to have a personality-infused senior session. As you can see from his shoot, we love when our Seniors bring clothes and props that are important to them. And the result? Incredibly awesome pictures that have your name written all over them (Figuratively, not literally. Though we can do that too, if you’d like).

Grease Lightnin’!
May0
Well, it looks as though the infamous West Stanly Players have done it again, folks. If you haven’t already heard, they’re performing the super fun musical, Grease. It’s a two week production at West Stanly High, and seeing as how opening weekend has come and gone, you’ve got one weekend left to snag a seat. And trust me, you’ll want to see this one.
We’re proud to say that two of our very own seniors (and many more awesome seniors) play a role in this year’s production. Both Sara and Sam are irreplaceable additions to the show. We had the honor of attending opening night and had a blast watching them sing, dance, and have fun. And we’d like you to know that we taught them everything they know (Okay, that’s a lie, but here’s for wishful thinking!). We recommend you put down whatever you’re doing right this instant and get yourself and everyone you know a ticket. Details can be found here at the school’s website.
To Sara and Sam, and the rest of the ‘Grease’ crew, you were awesome! And as I’ve been instructed by our seniors to say, Break a Leg! And no, we’re not just saying that, we really mean it!
Oh, and did I mention how we have an ad in the ‘Grease’ playbill? Well we do. Make sure to look for it when you go. And if you’re wondering what to look for, well, it looks a little something like this….
Annnnnnd. When you go to the show and find our ad, hold on to it. Then, bring it to us at the studio when you schedule your appointment with us and we’ll give you 16 free wallets. You get free stuff simply for bringing us your playbill. Yep, that’s right. And not to mention the fact that now is the best time to schedule an on-location senior session with us. Why? Because we have some unprecedented really awesome deals going on right now.
So call us today or swing by our studio party next week to schedule your appointment!
Ally & Randi: The Dynamic Duo
Jan0
Hi all. I’d like to introduce you to Randi and Ally. And let me just say up front, these girls are awesome. We had so much fun watching them act like sisters. And I love that we were able to catch their sisterly dynamic on camera. They kept Aaron and I very entertained. Bottom line, we had a blast!

Randi plays Varsity basketball at West Stanly and is in Cosmetology. She loves Hello Kitty, being with friends, movies, and bowling. And loves giving her sister “the look.”

Ally is also in Cosmetology. She’s outgoing, loves her friends, having fun, Sundrop, and chicken. And my favorite part about Ally? She loves to smile. Can’t you see why we had such a good time?

Oh, and did I mention Ally and Randi are twins? Because they are. And people, they have a good time together. They’re sisters through and through. And to top it all of, they’re both big time Carolina fans. Makes me like them even more!

Ally and Randi’s shoot is a perfect reminder that we make you look awesome year-round. It doesn’t need to be Summertime before you can get your pictures taken. Winter and Spring make for awesome shots too! If you’re interested in changing it up and getting your senior pictures done soon, let us know. We’d love to schedule your appointment today. Call 704.888.2881 or email me at haley@bamboostudios.net to book your shoot today!
We look forward to working with you!
Jessi, not Jess
Nov0
How ’bout I let Jessica handle the introduction…

Yep, you heard right. This is Jessica from West Stanly. As usual, she has a few ties to the studio already having known a number of our previous seniors. She plays softball at West, as well as on a traveling team called, Carolina Xtreme. She plans on going to college and studying something in the medical field. You can find her playing softball, hanging out with friends and family, or at her part-time job at Baskin Robbins. Yum.

Jessi loves her Chucks, diet Dr. Pepper, Lady GaGa, and having fun. Which became very clear during her shoot. The having fun part that is. And we laughed a lot. Maybe it was because we caught her mom dancing up on the hill (to which she said, “… I can’t take her anywhere”), or maybe it was Aaron falling off that stump, or me jumping up and down on tree branches. Or… maybe she was in a super good mood because she was going to look at cars after her shoot. Or maybe… just maybe, she’s simply a fun girl.
Something tells me to go with a combination of all of the above.

When all was said and done, we had a blast with Jessi. The best part was at the very end when Aaron usually ends the shoot with his infamous high-five. Well, we were pleasantly surprised when Jessi herself, initiated the high-five. She is the first senior to ever do so and will be remembered as such for decades to come.
So if you think Jessi’s shoot looked like fun, then you need to come in and experience it for yourself. We’ll be announcing our November special soon and very soon. So be sure to stay tuned and check back in with the website for the big reveal. Call 704.888.2881 or email me at haley@bamboostudios.net if you have any questions! Happy November.
Jessica: The Astronomer
Oct0
Hi again everyone. We’d like you to meet Jessica. She’s from West Stanly. She takes cosmetology. Loves Sunchips and Snickers. Wears her cousin’s jeans and dresses that aren’t hers. She enjoys changing her hair a lot. And she seems to rock whatever style she wears. Did I mention how she likes to wear her cousin’s jeans? Well, here she is, folks!

Jessica was a treat. And by treat, I mean fun to hang out with. Not in a “she-was-fun-to-snack-on” kind of way. At least, not that we’re aware of…
Moving on.
Jessica was laid-back and way fun. We did our thing. She did hers. And it just worked. Clearly. And as she told us beforehand, she’s always up for a good challenge. And that she was! She did an awesome job and we enjoyed every second of her shoot.

Jessica was another one of our seniors that took advantage of our incredible September special. I’m sure she’d tell you it was a brilliant idea. But speaking of specials… we’ve got another one for you. Just for October. If you book your Senior on-location session with us during the month of October… we will give you… 2… free… wait for it… digital images! That’s right, 2 digital negatives for free. That’s a $90 value.
I mean, c’mon, talk about some bang for your buck. You pick out two images that you’d like digitized and we’ll give you each of those images in color, black & white, and sepia along with both print and web versions.
As a recap for anyone who isn’t familiar with our digital options; The print version (along with the print release) allows you to print them wherever you want to, in whatever size you want, and however many copies you want. The image is yours to do what you please. And the web version is email friendly so that you can send it to whomever and post it wherever!
Like I’ve said before, it’s the best of both worlds. And these two images are yours for free. IF you book your Senior on-location session with us for the month of October, that is. You know you want to!
Call us at 704.888.2881 to book your session today.
Real Men Wear Hello Kitty
Sep0
… Or so we’ve been told by one such man. By the name of Dillon. Be forewarned: Viewing the following images is like getting kicked in the face with a steel-toed Kodiak work boot.

First and foremost we wanted to thank Dillon and his mom for bringing the perfect weather along with them to the shoot. The day started out gray. When Dillon walked onto the scene, the sun came out, the birds started to chirp, and all the woodland creatures came out to greet him. Well… two out of three ain’t bad. OK ok… one and a half. The sun actually did come out. The birds chirped their normal amount. And we saw about a thousand deer playing by the road. That counts, right?

Ok, back to Dillon. He attends West Stanly and participates in Cross Country and Swim team. He loves Vanilla Coke and Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. He’s looking to go to Appalachian or UNC for college. And he’d like to major in History. With hopes of going on to become a History teacher. But none of that Renaissance/ Middle Ages stuff. He likes modern History.Like Presidents, World Wars, Cultural Colonization… and all that jazz. We say go for it. Well, that is if the modeling career doesn’t take off after these images hit the internet.

Dillon was one of the first to take advantage of our incredible September Special. What makes it so amazing is that we’re offering $200 off our senior on-location sessions for this month only. Which means you could get a 3-hour on-location session like Dillon’s for only $99. And not only do we recommend it because of the extraordinary price, but because it’s during the Fall. Which means cooler weather. Which means less sweat. And more colors. And all around, more fun. Cool weather+scarves+jackets+layers+leaves=best decision you’ll ever make. I think I can speak for Dillon and say that September is the perfect time to come in and get your senior pictures. Shoot, maybe you’ll even end up with a cool running shot like this one:

This next image is one of a kind. We’ve never done anything like it. I bet you’d never know that the water was freezing cold. But Dillon was determined to get the shot. And it was well worth it. Wouldn’t you agree?

So I know all of you are curious as to the title of this here blog. Well, our very own photographer, Mr. Aaron (His friends call him Wet One), wore a pink shirt to Dillon’s shoot. We got to chatting about it/ picking on Aaron and Dillon made the comment that real men wear pink. So, we decided to leave it at that.
As you can see, Dillon took a little dip in the lake. When we got back to the car, he grabbed a towel to dry off. Why am I telling you this story? Well, it’s because the towel he draped around his shoulders was pink… with Hello Kitty all over it.
So as it turns out, yes, real mean wear pink. But REAL men wear Hello Kitty.
Titles that got the boot (but not the steel-toed Kodiak kind):
Dillon: Tastes Like Chicken
Dillon: A Recipe For A Delightful Swedish Dessert
Dillon: Shawty Fire Burnin’ On the Dance Floor
And unlike the Hello Kitty title, there is no rhyme or reason to these. Courtesy of ‘Wet One.’
Blake: The “Jackie O” of 2010
Aug0

Meet Jac--, I mean, Blake. She goes to West Stanly and as usual, we have a celebrity look-a-like on our hands. However, this one was brought to my attention beforehand. Apparently people have told her she resembles Jackie Kennedy. I would have to agree. She holds herself much like Jackie did too. Very poised. Not to mention, she’s a fan of fashion, color, jewelry, and simplicity. All hallmarks of Jackie, herself.

She warned us that she might come across as shy at first. Which she did. But she also told us that after about 15 minutes, she gets over it. Which also happened. As you can see from the picture below, she warmed up alright. I just wish I could remember what was said to make her laugh that hard.

Blake loves the water. Whether it’s her backyard pool, the lake, or the beach. And her favorite place to go is the Outer Banks (I’m with you there!). She is involved with Cosmetology, Swimming, Student Council, and the National Honor Society. She hopes to eventually end up at ASU where she’d like to get a nursing degree. She also loves McDonald’s Sweet tea (who doesn’t?), Diet Sundrop (That’s what I’m talking about), Peanut M&Ms (I prefer Peanut BUTTER), Peach Rings (Yum), and Strawberries (Seriously, we’re like the same person).

Blake was so much fun. Aaron enjoyed picking on her, and Blake and I enjoyed laughing back at how weird Aaron is. My favorite part is when our seniors come in and exchange “What in the world is he talking about?” glances with me. Or the ever so common, “Is he being serious?” The sad truth is, sometimes I have no idea. Word to the wise: When it comes to Aaron, my suggestion is to simply smile and nod. Works everytime, right Blake?
Crikey! It’s Sheila.
Aug0
First of all, did you know that in Australia, people refer to girls as “sheilas”? I thought that was relevant since our most recent senior is Sheila from West Stanly. Second of all, did you know that Australians refer to food as “tucker”? I thought that was relevant since my last name’s Tucker and I love food.
OK. So that second point wasn’t exactly relevant, but it was interesting, no? I mean, seeing as how today is the first day of school, I thought it only made sense for me to impart some wisdom myself. Regardless of whether it’s actually useful or not…
So, back to Sheila! Here she is. Isn’t she a Beaut (that’s how they say it in Australia)?

We hit it off with Sheila pretty quickly. One of the first things she did when she walked in the door was tell me she knew I would be a blonde. And all we did was communicate through email. It seems we had both tried to visualize what the other looked like. And no, she didn’t mean anything by the blonde comment. At least I hope she didn’t!
And by now I’m assuming you all are aware of my need to assign a celebrity look-a-like to every senior that walks in our door. And Sheila is no different. Have any of you ever seen, “The Princess Bride?” Well, if you haven’t, watch it! Immediately. Because it’s amazing. But anyway. The princess in the movie is played by Robin Wright [Penn]. And whether you agree with me or not, all I could think about is how much Sheila resembled her. Go ahead. Try me. Google Image her. And let me know what you think.

Sheila plays tennis. And just in case you were wondering, she prefers doubles over singles. She loves people, her sister, alternative rock and country music. She’s involved in the Medical Science Club, Political Awareness Club, and volunteers at the hospital when she gets the chance. Oh, and she hates feet.

She claims she’s shy. And while she may have been a little quieter than most, she was a fireball in front of the camera. You would never think she was “that shy girl” at school by looking at these pictures. But we love being surprised. And that’s exactly what happened. Not only by her incredible modeling talent, but by her attitude to barrel through the shoot, despite the 100+ degree weather. And no, I don’t think I’m exaggerating. It was the hottest day of the summer, hands down.
Which is why Aaron and I both agreed that her having her hair styled specifically for the shoot was so brilliant. And imperative. It looked stunning the entire three hours. Despite the heat AND wind. We are now and forever huge fans of having your hair done for your senior shoots. It’s one less thing to worry about. And Aaron couldn’t get over how awesome her hair looked. I’m not kidding. He’s still talking about it.

So to sum it all up… here are the lessons we learned during Sheila’s shoot.
1. Getting your hair done is a must (this applies mainly to the ladies. But for you fellas, we love a good faux-hawk. I’m just sayin’).
2. 100 degree weather affects (aka: melts) photographers and photographer’s assistants much like water affects the Wicked Witch of the West.
3. Lying in the grass is itchy.
4. Only drive off road in 4-wheel drive vehicles.
5. Yellow Jacket stings hurt. Avoid them at all costs.
P.S. If you think Sheila’s hair looks amazing too… And you’re interested in getting your hair done before a shoot with us… consider ‘The Tucker House Studio’ here in Locust. They do a great job and would love to make you look awesome. Call Sara at 704.888.4708 if you have any questions!
And you can call me at 704.888.2881 to schedule your on-location senior session. Over and out!
Heeeeere’s Hannah!
Aug0
Here she is, folks… Hannah from West Stanly.

Although Aaron hates it when I mention the Tarheels, I thought it only appropriate to share Hannah’s love for UNC (I am 100% with you on that, Hannah!). She also enjoys music by Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and Taylor Swift. Clearly she’s a lover of all music.
And we certainly can’t forget to mention her adoration of Cheerwine. Just one more reason why it was so incredibly easy to get along with her.

She loves being outside (which you can tell from the above shots). And loves playing tennis (which you can tell from the below shots). In fact, her and another Bamboo senior, Miss Brittany, will be going head-to-head for the Number 1 seed. Yikes. But with a talented girl like Hannah… well, let’s just say that’ll be a tough match. No diggity. No doubt.

We had a blast working with Hannah and her posse (AKA: her mom and brother). Her bright colors and her awesome ability to model made the shoot so much fun. I just hate we can’t do the whole process all over again! But seeing as how we can’t, I suppose these AWESOME, off-the-chart shots will suffice.
Video, WHAAAAT!?
